Mr Derek Vella on behalf of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation recently presented a sponsorship grant to the Malta University History Society.
This grant will support the next issue of the MUHS journal Storja, which will be published in 2015. Representing MUHS were committee members Dr Emanuel Buttigieg, Dr Mark Aloisio, Mr Franco Davies, Ms Adriana Mintoff and Mr Jonathan Camilleri. Professor Henry Frendo, former vice-president of MUHS and former editor of Storjawas also present.The presentation was held in the Faculty of Arts library, which was made available for the event by the Dean, Prof. Dominic Fenech.
MUHS was founded in 1963 by Prof. Andrew Vella and the first issue of Storja was published in 1978. Six volumes of Storja have been published to date. The main mission of Storja is to allow history students and others scholars an opportunity to share their research with a wide audience.
In view of the 450th anniversary of the 1565 Ottoman Siege of Malta in 2015, Storjawill include a section with contributions on the Ottoman Empire and the Mediterranean in the sixteenth century, but there will also be papers on other subjects. 2015 will also mark the first centenary of operations for Alf. Mizzi& Sons Ltd, the parent company of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation.
