My family has been living in the same house in Birkirkara Road in St Julian’s for more than 50 years. Over the decades, we never complained when we received our water and electricity bills as they were always reasonable. But, unfortunately, the last bill we received was a great shock to us all because it was three times what was normal in the previous bills.
After checking that we had no damages or leakages, I decided to raise my complaint with ARMS Ltd at Blata l-Bajda. The clerk in charge admitted that this last bill was very high when she compared it with the previous bills I presented. She asked whether I wanted the meters to be checked, which would cost about €11. Accepting the proposal, she promised me that within a fortnight someone would come over to check the meters.
But after more than a month I’m still waiting for someone to turn up. Meanwhile, I have phoned and emailed ARMS several times to remind them that the appointment has not been honoured. Each time I receive a reply that workers are about to come. But I’m still waiting.
The question is: Who is going to pay the exorbitant bill that we are expecting? Why all this procrastination to have the meters checked? After all, this checking is against payment.
