Malta Independent Tuesday, 27 May 2014, 19:22 Last update: about 12 years ago

Founded in 1933 with just five planes, Turkish Airlines has grown into one of the leading airlines with a fleet of 250 planes, serving both passenger and cargo operations. A member of the Star Alliance, Turkish Airlines currently operates scheduled flights to a total of 253 destinations - 208 international and 45 domestic, in a total of 105 countries.  In May 2013, Malta became Turkish Airlines’ 100th country to be served by the airline.

“We are pleased to celebrate one year of operations in Malta.  With a flight time of just two hours and a baggage allowance in Economy class of 30 kgs, Turkish Airlines is proving to be a very popular airline with the Maltese market” said Muhammed Soner Aydin, General Manager for Turkish Airlines. “Turkish Airlines will be extending this allowance by a further 10 kgs during the month of June on the occasion of the Istanbul Shopping Fest” he added.

Skytrax named Turkish Airlines the “Best Airline in Europe” in 2013 for the 3rd consecutive year and the “Best Airline in Southern Europe” for the 5th year running. Turkish Airlines, which received the title “Best Food in Economy Class” award on a global scale in 2010, also earned Skytrax “Best Food in Business Class” award this year.

Turkish Airlines operates to Malta five times a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday). Flights depart from Malta at 15:15 and arrive in Istanbul at 18:35 (all times local).
