Businesses can benefit from an overall printing cost reduction of up to 30%, top HP executives said during a conference on HP Managed Print Services (MPS)organised by Forestals at the Westin Hotel.
Most businesses are not aware of their current printing expenses. This emerged during the conference which focused on ways and means of reducing a businesses’ printing expenses.
PrimozPolajnar, PPS Enterprise Sales Manager at HP, was the main speaker at the conference and outlined different strategies to address printing costs. “The first step” he contended, “is a print discovery, an exercise during which detailed information about the volume of prints, size and print type is recorded”. The information collected enables businesses to design a printer fleet and printing strategy that is tailor made to their requirements.
The trend in printing strategies is to reduce the printer fleet to a minimum, deploying larger, centralized printers, shared by a group of users. Such printers include added functionality not normally available on the smaller desk top printers such as secure printing, duplex printing and more. This strategy leads to an overall cost reduction in hardware and also consumables. Furthermore, with a Managed Print Services agreement, customers do not need to worry about maintenance of the machine or cost of toners. A truly comprehensive service for a business’ printing needs.
The information collated during the discovery phase will also be important during the deployment and implementation phase of the project. Once the new printing strategy is deployed, additional readings are taken and compared to the original data taken during the discovery. This allows HP to work out reduction in printing cost and ascertain if the overall project targets have been achieved.
Mr Polajnarconcluded by presenting cases studies where a saving of 30% in printing costs was achieved after a detailed print discovery and shift to a Managed Print Services environment.
NatasaKelsin, PPS Printing Sales Specialistat HP, gave a detailed explanation of HP inkjets and the new officejet pro x printers. She explained that officejet printers which use ink consumables rather than toner could be more suitable for certain users, such asSmall and Medium Businesses with moderate printing requests.
“Officejet printers are now capable of print speeds of up to 70ppm and have a lower cost per page than many laser printers,” said Ms Kelsin.
The conference was very well attended and included representatives from banks, Insurance firms, engineering companies, Government CIO’s, accountancy firms and gaming companies.
At the end of the conference, Gordon Dimech, Chief Operations Officer at Forestals concluded: “Even locally, companies havealready started benefitting from considerable savings after deploying HP’s Managed Print Services, interest in this service is growing and we are seeing a growing trend with companies seeing more cost effective printing solution.”
