Malta Independent Thursday, 5 June 2014, 12:14 Last update: about 13 years ago

A group of nine students: Maria Bonnici, George Mallia, Jasmine Xuereb, Manuel Caruana, Kim Scicluna, Michael Joe Cini, Malcolm Farrugia, Rudolf Camilleri, & Lucian Camilleri, led by Ms Amanda Sultana, from Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form, have participated in one of the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise programmes; Company Programme. The vision of the program is to bridge the gap between the school desk and the working world.  Students are equipped with skills, thus giving them the opportunity to set up their own business, therefore developing concepts into reality.

The group of students formed a company called Code X.  The mission of Code X is to create mobile applications and internet based solutions. The main application that Code X developed is called Travel Buddy. Travel Buddy targets the two to three day traveller. The innovative aspect of this application is rooted in the fact that information has to be inputted by individuals who possess local knowledge about the particular destination.  Gozo is used as a prototype. The application user also has the facility to choose an itinerary in line with his/her particular interests. The main sections found within the application include adventure, country walks, culinary, cultural and nightlife.

Code-X won the Best Use of Technology award which was presented by Playmobil.
