Easy wins for San Giljan, Neptunes

San Giljan trounced their opponents Otters Nivea with a score of 19-8 where the former tied up the game in the first two sessions.

San Giljan were completely dominant in their first game against Otters Nivea who rarely got a look in. The first two sessions were one way affairs finishing 5-1 and 4-0 with Dino Zammit and Kovacic featuring among the main scorers.

The third session was slightly more combative as Otters raced to a 3-1 lead, largely through the efforts of Vuksanovic. However, normal service was soon resumed with four straight goals coming from Radovic, Bianchi and Spiteri Debarro for a 5-3 scoreline in the session.

The final session was another high scoring affair with Otters making a good game of it scoring four times to San Giljan’s five with Edward and Vuksanovic notching up some good goals while Spiteri Debarro and Keith Galea shone for San Giljan with a final score of 19-8 in the Saints’ favour.

Exiles Ferretti 14 Marsaxlokk Fischer 12

Exiles Ferretti had to fight quite hard to overcome some stiff resistance from Marsaxlokk Fischer in their first Preliminary Round encounter. The first two sessions ended 3-1 and 3-2 to Exiles with Peter Borg scoring three goals while Marsaxlokk relied on Fulope and Frick for their goals.

The third session was an animated affair ending 4-2 in Exiles’ favour. Katonas and Sekulic continued scoring while Frikk and Fulope were again instrumental for Marsaxlokk. The final session was quite remarkable for the comeback spearheaded by Marsaxlokk’s Bence Fulope who scored no less than four times but Katonas and Sekulic scored at crucial moments to secure a 14-12 victory for Exiles.

Neptunes start new look league with an easy win

The champions, fresh from their President’s Cup victory just three days before, had a leisurely stroll against the hapless M’scala outfit, as they waltzed past their defence in the opening two sessions, and then continued to increase their goal tally in the remaining time. M’scala put up some spirited resistance in the final period, when Neptunes began to ease up on their pressure.

M’scala were on the receiving end in the early stages of the game, and they had to suffer more Neptunes’ advances till the interval, when the score was already 14-3. The last two sessions were more contested, but the champions were relaxed in their expanding advantage.

Steve Camilleri made a seven goal haul, for the champions, with Michele Stellini on a poker, and Tamas Molnar and Clint Mercieca on hat tricks. The two M’scala foreigners, Sergi Mora and Gergo Marmitz also netted three goals each.

Valletta return to the top echelon with a victory

The Citizens made their return to the top flight with a handsome victory over Ta Xbiex, who will be finding the going tough this season. Valletta eased away from their adversaries in each session of play, and their ever increasing lead had them on a satisfying scoreline at the end of the match.

By mid-match Valletta were on a 7-3 advantage, and the game continued on the same pattern till the end, with Valletta’s advantage getting better with the passing minutes.

Djorde Filipoviv grabbed a nap hand of goals for the Citizens, with Ranier Scerri netting three more. Ta Xbiex had Milos Maksimovic with a brace of strikes., and they also had Michael Rizzo sent off, for dissent from the bench, in the third session.
