Showing live via satellite at the Eden Cinemas on Tuesday 24th June at 19:45 is Puccini’s breathtaking opera Manon Lescaut. After an absence of over 20 years, Puccini’s early masterpiece makes a welcome return to Covent Garden in an all new production by Jonathan Kent.  Under the baton of Music Director Antonio Pappano stars the immensely talented Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais as Manon, a bold but impressionable heroine. She is matched in star power by Jonas Kaufmann who plays the part of her lover, Des Grieux, together with Christopher Maltman as her cynical brother. The much anticipated production exemplifies Kent’s vision of a young girl who faces temptation in the big city, a theme which will surely resonate with today’s audience.

Adding further intensity to Puccini’s magnificent score is the enhanced sound and dimmed theatre lighting in Eden Cinemas’ multipurpose theatre, where audiences experience that authentic feel of the Royal Opera House.  Sure to be an outstanding performance, audiences pay just a fraction of that charged overseas for theatre tickets.
