Neptunes Grimaldi     18     Exiles Ferretti     11

(5-2, 5-1, 4-4, 4-4)

It was a run-of-the-mill match for the champions, who opened up briskly, to take an advantage, which they duly increased till the interval. They then began to get careless in the last two sessions, allowing Exiles to get more into the picture, and the latter side responded well, to notch up a very respectable score.

Neptunes introduced Matthew Castillo in lieu of Brandon Dougall, and Exiles were without Nicky Portelli. Neptunes converted three out of their four man ups, with exilesgetting a solitary strike from five extra player occasions.

Neptunes established a winning 13-4 margin in the third session, and then were erratic, as Exiles managed to share the remainder of the match, replying time and time again to the neptunes’ other goals.

Steve Camilleri and Peter Biros notched a nap hand of goals each for Neptunes, with Luka Sekulix grabbing a poker of goals for Exiles.

Sliema Frank Salt     11     Sirens Ritter Sports     12

(3-2, 3-3, 2-5, 3-2)

After their amazing comeback against Neptunes, three days before, Sliema were expected to obtain the necessary points against Sirens, but the latter side thought otherwise, and after weathering Sliema’s attacks till the start of teh second period of play, Sirens then showed their worth, to draw level, after losing Zak Mizzi, ejected from the game. Sliema managed another lead till the interval, at 6-5, but from then on they had to chase spirited opponents, who improved as the game wore on, and finished up the match dixtating the paly. Sliema lost John Soler on fouls, when they were 6-7 behind, and although Sliema huffed and puffed, it was Sirens 10-8 in front, when the last quarter began. Sliema fell further behind, before managing to creep to within a goal of their adversaries, but Tim Hutten, who regained his place from the newcomer, Ivan Basara, was also fouled out, and Sirens regained a double advantage.

It was enough, with Sliema reducing the deficit, but they couldn’t make up the leeway, with Sirens holding out confidently till the end.

Sliema could only manage five goals from a dozen man ups in their favour, with Antonio Petkovic their main danger man, getting five goals in the process, including three penalties. Sirens were awarded a total of sixteen man ups, in which they converted seven of them, as Christian Presciutti shot home his five strikes.

With this defeat Sliema were overtaken by Sirens in the standings, and fell to fourth position.

In the next session braces of goals by Sean gravina, for Ta Xbiex, and Ivan Vuksanic, for Otters, kept the status quo, with the last period starting at 7-7.
