Veteran journalist Anton Cassar, the first editor of the GWU newspaper l-orizzont, has died. He was 90.
Mr Cassar was born in Marsa in 1924. He started his career with Il-Berqa in 1946 and later joined Union Print.
He was awarded a medal for his service to the Republic and the Gold Award in journalism.
The government paid tribute to Mr Cassar through a statement issued by the Department of Information, in which it described him as a pioneer in the field of journalist and literature, and a visionary when it came to leftist writing in Malta.
It said that his contribution is set to leave a mark on generations to come.
