Eden Leisure’s Bowling to fight Child Obesity is a huge success

Malta Independent Thursday, 3 July 2014, 19:41 Last update: about 13 years ago

On the 1st July, the Eden SuperBowl launched the Free Summer Bowling Club as part of an initiative to help fight child obesity. Once registered on the Eden SuperBowl website, children between 5 and 16 receive two free games of bowling five days a week throughout the summer. Healthy snack options have also been made available and have had an impressively high take up.

Since announcing details about the campaign in early June, the Eden SuperBowl has received over 2000 applications, together with extremely positive feedback. With so many children already registered, it is no surprise that the Eden SuperBowl has almost reached its maximum capacity for the summer and will soon be creating a waiting list for new participants. Over 250 children per day are making use of this offer who are assisted by coaches and trainers to understand the basics of the sport.

The objective behind this has always been to provide children with a fun and active way to stay fit and healthy. From the response received it can definitely be said that the objective has been reached and that the initiative is a huge success. It was launched with the support of the Secretariat for Youth and Sport and the Honourable Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Chris Agius and Malta’s Health Promotion Department who assisted in getting the word out to parents. With statistics continuing to confirm obesity as a worldwide epidemic, together with alarming figures here in Malta, one can only hope that other companies will be inspired to invest in such projects which raise awareness and continually encourage children to keep active and eat right.

Eden Leisure Group are tremendously pleased that the concept was so well received and hope to continue giving back to the community and Malta’s youth through these innovative schemes. We now need to assist these children to become the sports bowlers of tomorrow.
