First point for both sides in top division

A late rally brought the first Premier point to Exiles, when Valletta couldn’t hold on to a double lead in the final stages of the encounter. The Citizens also garnered their opening point in the top echelon, as they opened up well in the match, and enjoyed good advantages throughout the game, but the end result did not end entirely in their favour. After Exiles’s opening strike it was Valletta who forced their style of play on their opponents, and end the first period on a double advantage. The next session was hort on goals, with a strike apiece, as the Citizens extended their lead, and exiles pulling a goal back till the interval, when Valletta were leading 5-3.

After the break Exiles were a more adventurous, and led by Gergely Katonas, they managed to draw level, but a brilliant goal, from Milos Korolija, just before the end of the period, had Valletta again in front, on a 7-6 score. In the last quarter Valletta were again two goals ahead, Katonas struck a penalty throw against the post, for exiles, but made amends seconds later, to halve the deficit. Daniel Paolella scored for the Citizens, who lost Michael Spiteri Staines and Michael Rizzo on fouls. Exiles made a last effort, and were rewarded with two late strikes, which earned them their first point, as Valletta’s last chance ended against the bar.

Exile’s Katonas finished with a nap hand of goals, and Valletta’s Paolella struck a het trick.

M'xlokk edge away from the bottom spot

M’xlokk obtained their first win, and opening points of the season, beating Ta Xbiex, as the latter side opened up well, but faded away after the interval, allowing their opponents to take their chances, and walk away with the victory.

Ta Xbiex were twice ahead in the opening session, through peter Markoch goals, but M’xlokk came back, to level the score each time. In teh second period Ta Xbiex tooka double lead, with M’xlokk pulling a goal back. Otis Zammit struck twice more for Ta Xbiex, but M’xlokk replied, for a 4-6 score, at the interval.

Ta Xbiex lost their way after the break, and M’xlokk, gaining confidence, netted four times without any reply, as they forged ahead, to take an 8-6 advantage. In the last session M’xlokk struck twice more, to make the issue safe, with Ta Xbiex netting a late consolation goal, which was scarce reward for their earlier good play.

Otto Frick scored three times for the winners, and Ta Xbiex had Otis Zammit and Peter Markoch both on hat tricks, as they remained with a solitary point in the standings.
