Neptunes go to the top of the standings

Sirens managed to surprise Sliema last week, but the champions are a different kettle of fish. Neptunes started off well in the opening session, and although Sirens kept up the pace till the interval, the champions began to extend their advantage after the break, and finished off comfortable winners, as they went on to grace the top of the table, remaining as sole leaders, after San Giljan’s defeat in the next game.

Sirens managed to reply to Neptunes’ first two strikes, but till the end of the period Neptunes had gone forward to a better advantage. In the next session top scorer Steve Camilleri’s brace of goals had Sirens with a suitable response, as they ended the first part of the match 6-9 behind, but after the break the champions extended their lead, even though Sirens had a good ending to the session. Neptunes began the last quarter on a 14-9 advantage, and followed up with three more strikes. Sirens scored the last goal of the match.

Steve Camilleri ended with a double hat trick, and Peter Biros fired in a poker of goals for Neptunes. Christiam Presciutti netted three goals for the losers, as Sirens lost their third placing after the next match played.

Sliema take first points off the Saints this season

Sliema edged out the saints in a thrilling encounter, that had the Blues reacting well to their shock defeat by Sirens, just a few days before. San Giljan lost their first points of the season, and also their top placing, being overtaken by Neptunes. San Giljan took an early double advantage, with Sliema reducing their deficit till the end of the period. In the second session Sliema’s Jerome Gabarretta obtained his hat trick, but was fouled out early, soon afterwards. The Saints twice drew level till the interval, as both sides were level, at 4-4, halfway through the match.

The Saints went in front after the break, but Sliema retaliated well, with a trio of goals. San Giljan did not take lonbg to even the score once more, as Sliema also lost Mark Meli on fouls. The last session began with both sides locked at 7-7. Alex Radovic blasted the Saints ahead, but Ivan Basara, who played in lieu of Tim Hutten, netted twice in a row, and Sliema were in front. San Giljan obtained another even score, but the deciding goal came from a John Soler lob for the Blues. There was still time left, but Sliema held out, to grab all three points. and go into third position.

Sliema had two players on three strikes, Gabarretta and Basara. San Giljan’s Zejlko Kovacic also netted a hat trick, but the Saints’ tally on man ups left much to be desired, as they scored six goals from a total of fourteen man ups.

Stalemate at the top of the table

There was a status quo at the top of the standings, as Otters held off M’scala, to remain as league leaders. M’scala enjoyed leads throughout the game, but the Gozitans always found means to get back on level terms. M’scala were without Jean Claude Cutajar, with Karl Rizzo Naudi being recovered, after missing some matches.

M’scala repeated the same score for the first sessions of the match, and at the interval they were on a double advantage, at 6-4. Otters went to within a goal three times after the break, but when the last session began M;scala were leading 9-7. The Gozitans put in their last efforts, and were on a drawn score, only for M’scala to grab another advantage. Otters tied the score yet again, and this time there was no further scores from both sides, as they battled to a stalemate.

Sergi Mora and Joe Cremona scored three goals each for M’scala, and Otters’ Ivan Vuksanovic netted a total of four strikes.
