Labour MP Marlene Farrugia this morning attacked the government she forms part of for “putting our entire electricity generation and distribution in Chinese hands”.
Writing on Facebook, Dr Farrugia said the previous Nationalist government “should admit its shame and treachery in this regard, and my Labour government should seek to contain it, not perpetuate it.”
“If the money we could have saved had been actually saved, if the huge investment in smart meters had given the people a return on their investment, instead of costing them millions more in electricity theft, this government would not even have been tempted to make the grave mistake it’s making in putting our entire electricity generation and distribution in Chinese hands,” she wrote.
“The previous Nationalist Government should admit its shame and treachery in this regard, and my Labour Government should seek to contain the damage, not perpetuate it.
“I have the greatest respect and sympathy with the brilliant, industrious Chinese people, but not with their authoritarian government.”
