IBM, in collaboration with the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA), has hosted a workshop at SmartCity Malta for developers to show the capabilities of BlueMix, its new cloud development platform. BlueMix is an open standards, cloud-based platform for building, managing and running apps of all types (web, big data, mobile, new smart devices). Capabilities include Java, mobile backend development, application monitoring, as well as capabilities from ecosystem partners and open source – all through an “as a service” model in the cloud.

During the workshop participants had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of building and deploying an application in the cloud, as well as work with IBM experts who helped them to deploy their own applications and have them running in a matter of hours.

The course included six sessions which covered practical training on BlueMix Arquitecture, how to build and deploy an app in BlueMix, registering services in BlueMix, etc.

This workshop is part of the different initiatives that IBM is running for start-ups, independent software vendors (ISVs) and developers in Malta aimed specifically to assist them capture new business opportunities.

Last June 25th IBM held a forum to illustrate how these players could benefit from IBM programmes available to them.
