M’scala Mor€     3     Otters Nivea     2

(3-2)

This match, played in front of a good crowd, including a contingent of Gozitan supporters, had to be postponed to a later date, when all Malta was plunged in darkness, just before eight in the evening.

The two teams were meeting for the third time this season, with a drawn result in the first league game, and M’scala getting the better of the Gozitans, 16-13, in the next encounter.

Otters had a positive start, with their Serbian import, Ivan Vuksanovic giving them a double advantage, the second coming from a penalty throw.

M’scala pulled themselves back, and the Hungarian, Gergo Marnitz, brought them on level terms, with his brace of goals.

Then the lights failed, and after a brief stop, it was decided that the game would continue under the natural light.

Here M’scala went in front, with a Liam Grixti strike, and they stayed ahead till the end of the session.

At the start of the second period the two coaches were called over by the ASA president, Joe Caruana Curran, who explained that the gathering darkness would prevent the match from being continued, and the light failure was expected to take a long time.

Agreement was reached, that the match would continue to be played, from the second session onwards, with the first period score to stand.

The interrupted final will now resume on Monday, 18 August, at 7pm.
