SmartCity Malta (SCM) has invested in 11 hybrid polesto light up the promenade at its latest events hub, Laguna Walk, leading on to Xghajra. The promenade lighting poles are a self-sustaining system of road lighting powered solely by renewable energy sources, including wind energy, through the top-mounted wind turbine, and solar energy, from the mounted solar panel. The hybrid street lighting poles are another example of the investment SmartCity Malta continues to make in its commitment to sustainability.
The new promenade hybrid poles generate energy that is stored automatically in a gel type battery which is able to provide autonomy to the pole for around 72hours. The poles are equipped with a 40W magnetic induction lamp which is the main source of street lighting, whilst the body houses 2x3 watt central spots LED lamps RGB that can be controlled to create the multi-coloured ambience. Indeed, the SmartCity Malta project continues to be built in such a way as to protect its environment and provide its inhabitants with comfortable, productive and healthy places for work and leisure.
SmartCity Malta is committed to reducing the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment. In fact, from its inception, SmartCity Malta has continued to adopt globally benchmarked environmentally friendly practices to make its global network of self-sustained business parks highly energy and resource efficient. Today, SmartCity Malta is the first township development in Malta to register for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.
