Sliema had quite an easy task against the Saints, to make sure of keeping their second placing in the standings. Till the interval it was still a close match, but after teh break the Blues began to pull away, and then made sure of their victory with more goals in the final session. San Giljan introduced their young goalie frederick Buhagiar, in lieu of second choice, Joseph Sammut, and he was given an outing in the late stages of the match.
Sliema scored twice, through Antonio Petkovic, in the opening session, but the Saints' reactions came from a brace by Dino Zammit. In the second period San Giljan were i9n front, for the only time in the match, but Sliema overturned the score, and though Kai Dowling tied the score for San Giljan, the Blues added on two more strikes before the end of the session, to take a 6-4 advantage till the interval.
After the break Sliema were increasing their lead, but the Saints were offering some opposition, with their goals. Sliema went four goals ahead, only for the Saints to pull two goals vback. Sliema regained their previous advantage, and when the Saints were awarded a penalty, Alex Radovic saw his shot saved by Ryan Coleiro, with the aid of the woodwork, and Sliema went into the last quarter on a 12-8 lead. he Saints lost skipper, Matthew Zammit, on a red card, and Jerome Gabarretta forged forward for the Blues, scoring three times in succession, along with another from Jurgen Borg, in the last seconds of the game, without any reply from San Giljan, as Sliema's lead grew further.
Petkovic finished with a total of seven goals, and Gabarretta added four strikes more for the Blues. San Giljan had Dino Zammit with a poker of goals.

Exiles take first step to retain status

Exiles made the first inroad to hold on to their place in the Premier division, for next season, with a good victory over the second tier champions. Goals were not scarce in this match, with Exiles always in front, except for a brief spell in the first minutes of the match, and were able to enhance their advantage in the first three sessions, before a goal glut went in favour of M;scala in the last period.
Four quick goals, late in the opening session, gave Exiles a good lead, and they followed this up in the next period, to have a solid advantage till the interval, on a 9-4 score.
After the break, although M;scala managed to react to the exiles' strikes, they also failed in three consecutive man ups, and exiles were on a better lead, going into the last quarter, on a 13-7 score. Then it was an open game till the end, with a total of thirteen goals shared between the two sides, as M'scala kept their end up.
Exiles had Peter Borg on five goals, and David Pace Lupi and James Spiteri Staines scored four goals each. M'scala's Jean Claude Cutajar and Gergo Marnitz netted four times each.
