Duringthis month’s successful Food and Drink Festival at SmartCity Malta’s latest events venue, Laguna Walk, Daniel Grima surprised his girlfriendof two years, Michelle Gatt with a marriage proposal in front of thousands of people.

Upon arriving at SmartCity Malta, the couple approached the stage where Ms Gatt was under the impression her boyfriend was going to give a speech on his impression of SmartCity Malta. However, as he was called onto the stage, he took her hand to join him. Ms.Gatt was then completely surprised with the turn of events as her partner went down on one knee and proposed.

Ms Gatt, in disbelief of what was happening, gladly said ‘Yes’ in front of all the attendees of the Food and Drink Fest. The crowd stood and clapped as they congratulated the newly engaged couple. The families of the couple later joined them for a drink and some photos at Laguna Walk. 

Mr Grima said he always wanted a surprise proposal rather than a fabricated one and felt SmartCity Malta was an original location.“I chose SmartCity Malta because of the wonderful fountain at Laguna Walk,” Mr Grima said.

“I felt that in the evening, the musical fountain created a very romantic atmosphere. Thus, I wanted to take the opportunity to be the first to propose at SmartCity Malta. Preparing a surprise marriage proposal entails a lot of planning and preparation. I am grateful for the cooperation shown by the management of SmartCity Malta and thank them for their help in making the proposal a success,” Mr Grima concluded.
