Birzebbuga Sailing Club Freeport recently held a memorable event during which there was the presentation of the trophies to the winners of St Peter’s Regatta which was organised early August. This traditional open sailing event which has been held in Birzebbuga Bay on an annual basis since 1972, coincides with the feast of the local patron saint, St Peter in Chains. 

A fleet of sailing dinghies participated in two classes, the ‘Optimist Open’ and the ‘Handicap Class’. Club Race Officers David Dalli and Claudia Zammit laid an Olympic Trapezoid Course in the waters below Fort San Lucjan. Six races were held, three on each day in accordance with the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing using the Portsmouth Yardstick System for ‘Handicap Class’. This class was made up of Lasers, RS Fevas, a Topper Vibe and a Miracle. 

The trophies were presented to the winners by Selina Pace, Environment & Quality Manager of Malta Freeport Terminals Limited, the Official Club Sponsor.

The winners of the ‘Optimist Open’ were Francesca Zammit (1st), Patrice Pace (2nd) and Anna Tel (3rd).

In the ‘Handicap Class’, the winners were Matthew Wallis (1st - Laser Radial),

Andrew and Mikela Mifsud (2nd - Topper Vibe) and Daniel Dalli (3rd -  Laser Radial)
