Junk mail turned into useful mail

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 September 2014, 09:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I suggest that instead of the present junk mail, the Consumers’ Union should start producing publications about particular products and services.

Let’s say I want to buy a fridge; before I buy, I telephone the Consumers’ Union which will send me a publication stating what is available in the market with regard to fridges.

The information could also be sent through the internet.

The Consumers’ Union can collect the necessary information from the merchants involved, who would pay a price, as it would be a form of advertising for them.

The Consumers’ Union would update its publications at regular intervals.

The workers involved in the present junk mail publications could be involved by the Consumers’ Union in the production of the publications, filing, answering the telephone, the posting involved and the maintenance of the web site

Thus the consumer would only receive publications in which he/she is interested when the need arises
