Chris and Moira is now 20 years old and they are getting younger. They have celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of their fourth album ninety nights and a Monday, went on a European tour and are now the patrons of Rockineu network.
Sounds like a tall order and it has been in fact a very busy year that is actually the start of new and bigger things to come.
They have released four singles with the most recent being Can’t Slow Down that seems to sum it all up in its name given the hectic time the band is living at the moment.
The album ninety nights and a Monday is the result of four years of work and it is being promoted on the European tour that is taking Chris and Moira to several countries in Europe over a period of 13 months. The adventure overseas, Tour170, is the result of alternative ways of networking to cross borders. They have been hosted by a variety of bodies including city councils, universities and clubs in festivals or in cultural programmes and events.
Tour170 has been positive all round. Chris and Moira have been very well received by the foreign audiences particularly by the younger generations who loved their performances. They have been invited to return to the cities where they have been already. This means that when Tour170 ends after the next stops in France, Turkey and Italy a new adventure is bound to start and it seems to have started already with the setting up of the Rockineu network.
Rockineu was conceived to generate opportunities for young and upcoming bands in the field of rock music and other genres that can comfortably be married with it.
Chris and Moira are the patrons of the European network and they will be the first mentors and artistic leaders of its members.
To date it includes musicians and bands from Barcelona, Cremona, Perugia, Antalya, Bratislava and Malta who will work together for the first ever public event of the network in Malta later on this year. The event will be a unique international experience in rock music following a period of preparation and joint experimentation between foreign and local bands.
This event will be a pilot activity that lays the foundations for other Rockineu international events in several European countries starting in 2015.
Rockineu is one of the natural results of the concert Tour170 in fact the first foreign members of the network are those bands that performed before Chris and Moira’s concerts overseas.
The network is gradually growing to become a space in which bands can develop their product through networking with their counterparts in other European countries and generate joint opportunities to play to international audiences. Rockineu will make mobility through networking more of a feasible adventure as opposed to individual sporadic efforts which bands often undertake to try to go beyond borders.
A number of European cities and organisations including Thessaloniki, Bratislava, Barcelona, Isle of Wight, Antalya and Goettingen have expressed interest in this venture and they have already come together to establish a partnership for joint funding of the Rockineu network. They are seeing Rockineu as a way in which bands can grow into professionals and be rewarded with international visibility in a structured manner through networking.
