Trained professionals in the field of taxation are progressively in demand, especially in light of changes taking place within the Eurozone to ensure good fiscal governance, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said.
Prof. Scicluna was speaking during the graduation ceremony of the Diploma in Taxation held at the premises of the Malta Institute of Taxation at the University of Malta.
In his address, the minister highlighted the importance of designing taxes to be fair and efficient, and stressed that this efficiency is maximised when there is least interference in people's life choices.
He also explained how the introduction of the Fiscal Responsibility Act obliges the government to carry out continuous reporting and actions throughout the fiscal year, and how this reporting will be scrutinised by the Fiscal Countries. The bill, he added, ensured that Malta's public finances remained on a strong footing, leaving the country better equipped to avoid crises that have affected other European countries.
