Bank of Valletta is supporting the seventh edition of Arts Expression, which was launched at the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julians on the 10th October.
This collective exhibition will give audiences the opportunity to view a whole spectrum of artistic works, ranging from paintings to sculptures to photographic works. Bank of Valletta spoke to Christine Calleja, the organiser of Arts Expression.
With the exhibits as a backdrop, Christine talks about the scope behind this initiative, the challenges it poses, as well as the satisfaction of organising such a large-scale event.
What is Arts Expression and how did it start?
The name says it all. From its inception, Arts Expression was intended to showcase the works of local talented artists, who share an incredible drive to express themselves in different palettes, styles and tones. The exhibition generally features a whole spectrum of works of art including paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics and even digital arts.
Since it was launched way back in 2005, Arts Expression was successful in organising six editions which brought together over ninety artists.
We are convinced that anyone visiting the exhibition will manage to find a resounding note with one or perhaps more of the artistic works on display.
What can people expect this year which may be different to previous years?
This year marks the seventh edition of the Arts Expression. Seven local artists will be showcasing an ensemble of paintings using various media, including egg art exhibits - Adele Borg, Candice Fava, Matthew Apap, Matthew Farrugia, Matthew Mifsud, Nick Inguanez and Tiziana Calleja.
For the art-lover, this exhibition promises to be an exciting experience. Participating artists are free to let their creativity roam, without restrictions of style or media.
What inspires you to organise this series of exhibitions?
The aim behind every exhibition is the promotion of as many art forms and techniques as possible, whilst providing a launching pad for upcoming artists. Through this artistic exhibition, we strive to create an equal platform for all participating artists and we do this by giving the opportunity to upcoming artists to exhibit alongside established artists.
Personally, I believe that there is always something to be learnt from everyone. This experience has widened my perspective not only on an artistic level but also as an individual. I have encountered people from all walks of life, and every work of art is an expression of their life experiences. I think this is why I persist in undertaking this mammoth task, in spite of the challenges involved.
With arts and culture featuring prominently on the Bank's Community Program, Arts Expression is yet another opportunity for the Bank to introduce the public to new works of art whilst giving budding artists the possibility to take the first critical steps in their artistic career.
The Cavalieri Arts Expression will be open until the 26th October 2014.
