IRAN-NUCLEAR TALKS-ANALYSIS

VIENNA - With differences still unresolved and the deadline for a deal nearing, Iran and the U.S. have a choice to make: Extend nuclear talks for a second time or face the risk of renewed confrontation and armed conflict. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry meets Wednesday in Vienna with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to try and advance the talks and meet the target date of Nov. 24. But with less than six weeks left until Nov. 24, there may be no alternative to prolonging them. 

SPAIN-CATALONIA-INDEPENDENCE

BARCELONA, Spain - The leader of Spain's wealthy Catalonia region called off an independence vote, but said an unofficial poll would still be held next month to gauge secessionist sentiment. Artur Mas was forced to call off the Nov. 9 referendum after the Spanish government challenged its legality before Spain's Constitutional Court, which suspended the vote while it deliberates on the issue. 

TURKEY-ISLAMIC-STATE-ISTANBUL

ISTANBUL - Istanbul University student Aysegul Korkut is outraged by the images coming out of Syria. But these days the Islamic State group's horrors seem closer to home: She recently faced off against masked supporters of the brutal militants on her own campus. The Sept. 26 clash was the first in a series of fights at Istanbul University's Beyazit campus. There has been repeated violence since, and Turkish media have reported scores of arrests. The fights are one of many signs of support for the Islamic State which have popped up across Istanbul, a cosmopolitan metropolis better known to tourists for its vibrant nightlife and Ottoman-era glories. 

BRITAIN-SECRET TRIAL

LONDON - Prosecutors say a man accused of plotting a terrorist attack in Britain had the address of former Prime Minister Tony Blair in his car. Erol Incedal is accused of preparing a terrorist act and possessing bomb-making instructions. 

UKRAINE

KIEV, Ukraine - Clashes have broken out in front of Ukraine's parliament between unruly demonstrators and lines of police guarding the building. Passions ran high outside the building as deputies repeatedly voted down proposals to officially recognize a contentious World War II-era Ukrainian partisan group as national heroes. 

VATICAN-FAMILY

VATICAN CITY - Conservative Catholic bishops concerned about an unprecedented opening to gays and divorced people are seeking to make their voices heard at a Vatican meeting on family life, emphasizing the benefits of faithful Catholics, the fundamentals of church doctrine and the dangers of sin. A document produced at the halfway point of the meeting was praised by gay rights groups as a seismic shift in tone toward acceptance of gays. An official summary of the closed-door discussions that followed the document's release said that while the report was "appreciated," some bishops offered additional reflections "to bring together various points of view" that should be reflected in a final version being released Saturday. 

GERMANY-UN-EBOLA

BERLIN - A U.N. medical worker who was infected with Ebola in Liberia has died despite "intensive medical procedures," a German hospital said. The St. Georg hospital in Leipzig said the 56-year-old man, whose name has not been released, died overnight of the infection. It released no further details and did not answer telephone calls.

IRELAND-END TO AUSTERITY

DUBLIN - The age of austerity is ending in Ireland after six years of grueling tax hikes and spending cuts. The government will unveil a 2015 budget Tuesday expected to contain around 1 billion euros ($1.3 billion) in income tax breaks and spending increases, ending a long run of budgets that slashed 30 billion euros from the economy since the financial crisis began. The move follows Ireland's 2013 exit from an international bailout and is a milestone in its remarkable recovery at a time when much of the rest of Europe is struggling. By Shawn Pogatchnik. FRANCE-PAYMENTS VIA TWITTER

PARIS -Twitter may limit its messages to 140 characters, but in France, you'll soon be able to do more - send cash. A big banking group, BPCE, on Thursday will announce the move, which aims to give people a fast way to pay another person with an account on the social media site. 

EUROPE-ECONOMY

FRANKFURT, Germany - Germany's ZEW survey of investment analysts fell for the 10th consecutive month in October, adding to a string of downbeat economic data about Europe's largest economy and the eurozone as a whole. The index fell to minus 3.6 points from 6.9 points in September. That was worse than the zero expected by market analysts. 

BRITAIN-ECONOMY

LONDON - U.K. authorities say inflation fell to its lowest point in five years, dropping to 1.2 percent in September as shoppers benefited from a supermarket price war and lower petrol prices. The Office of National Statistics said Tuesday the rate dropped 0.3 percent, down from 1.5 percent in August. Food and nonalcoholic beverages fell by 1.4 percent year-on-year, the sharpest decline since June 2002. 

BRITAIN-BURBERRY

LONDON - Fashion luxury brand Burberry says revenues grew 7 percent in the six months through Sept. 30, with strong demand for its iconic trench coat, leather bags and men's tailoring. The company said revenue rose to 1.1 billion pounds ($1.6 billion) in the period, reflecting strong performance in Asia and in the Americas.
