Who cares? Where have the wardens and police officers gone? Stench in Cospicua

Where have the wardens and police officers gone?

Where have the wardens gone? Residents of the Ghajn Dwieli, Paola area still remember a time when wardens and policemen were a common sight. However, now it seems that both have become extinct. A reader has written to highlight how streets such as L-Ghaqdiet tal-Haddiema, Fr Charles Plater and Wied Blandun have become a sorry sight, with bags of garbage left outside on Saturday evenings to be collected on Monday and, as the photo shows, cars parked the wrong way in a one-way street. This has become something one sees frequently and even though there have been reports of cars being driven in the wrong direction, nothing has been done about it. What are the police waiting for? Will someone have to be run over before something is done?

Stench in Cospicua and Senglea

For about one week now - mainly in the evenings and during the night - residents of Cospicua and Senglea have lived behind closed windows: a pervasive, nauseating and headache-inducing smell of oil has invaded the cities, which seems to emanate from the dockyard below the bastion and permeates the whole area.

The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the authorities. Sadly, so far, it has been mostly met with resignation, disinterest or indifference.

Daily hazard

A reader underscores this is daily hazard made worse when work is being carried out in the area. In case anybody cares...

Street sign maintenance

Street signs need to be properly worded and well maintained, as evidenced by these photos sent in by a reader.
