GENEVA - A top World Health Organization official says the hunt for an Ebola vaccine will produce data about whether it's safe by December - and experimental field use by the start of 2015. Clinical trials planned or underway in Europe, Africa and the U.S. are being accompanied by a strong push among governments for immediate "real-world use" of an approved Ebola vaccine. 

EU-RUSSIA-UKRAINE-GAS

BRUSSELS - Energy chiefs of Russia, Ukraine and the European Union seek a solution to the standoff over winter gas deliveries from Russia to Ukraine. 

TOTAL CEO KILLED

MOSCOW - The head of French oil giant Total SA was killed at a Moscow airport when his corporate jet collided with a snowplow whose driver was drunk, Russian investigators said Tuesday. Total confirmed "with deep regret and sadness" that Chairman and CEO Christophe de Margerie died in the crash at Moscow's Vnukovo airport. 

GERMANY-LUFTHANSA-STRIKE

BERLIN - A German court has rejected a bid by Lufthansa to force a union representing the company's pilots to call off a strike, the latest in a string of walkouts over retirement benefits. 

PORTUGAL-SUBWAY STRIKE

LISBON, Portugal - The Portuguese government's plan to privatize debt-heavy public transport companies is meeting tough opposition from trade unions as Lisbon subway workers walked off the job for the 12th time this year. Staff staged a 24-hour strike Tuesday, demanding the government keep the Metropolitano de Lisboa in public hands.
