L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign gaining momentum

Thursday, 27 November 2014, 15:08 Last update: about 13 years ago

The L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign is swiftly reaching its peak. Since its launch in October, every class in every Primary and Secondary school around Malta and Gozo received a small piggy bank with the scope of enticing school children contribute to the cause.

Mr Edgar Preca's commitment to this campaign is evident in the numerous visits he is paying to schools around Malta and Gozo, speaking about the value of solidarity inherent in this campaign, and urging schoolchildren to participate in this campaign.

Now in its eleventh consecutive year, the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign has extended beyond school classrooms to include several retail outlets.

"The L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign encourages children tobe generous with those less fortunate. We all live in a community, whether in school or at the place of work, and we cannot afford to ignore those around us." said Joyce Tabone, Manager Media and Community Relations while accompanying MrPreca on one of the school visits in Gozo.

MrPreca expressed his appreciation at the way he was greeted at the schools and explained to the schoolchildren that the Malta Community Chest Fund needs around €230,000 every 4 weeks to be able to meet the demands of the community, with around €200,000 of them going towards persons, among them young children who are going through various serious medical conditions. MrPreca continued to urge the children to think about these people and to help them in their own little way

Bank of Valletta has presented over €950,000 to L-Istrina in the first ten years of the l-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign, through funds collected from the piggy banks, as well as donations made by the Bank itself. This year's donation will be announced during the live broadcast of L-Istrina on the 26th December.
