Living in St Julian's is not easy at the moment. Apart from the urban mess created by construction work, big trucks and blocked streets at every corner, and having to drive wrong way so many times just to get home... could someone at the St Julian's Local Council please find out when the excavation of the supermarket/flats near the church (PA/02258/13) is going to end?

We had to endure the heavy vibrations and noise of the digger the whole of last winter and I am dreading the same thing this winter too! Our apartment in Carmel Street rattles and shakes all day long and it must be even worse for the residents in Lapsi Street. I know of an old lady who thought it was an earthquake! It is not fair on the residents of all ages, especially the elderly. Even the dogs complain, and won't stop barking at the noise!

The heavy vibrations start at 7.30am and go on all day, and the work continues on Saturdays too. It is impossible to rest properly in the few free moments one has between one's own working hours. If Mepa had residents' wellbeing in mind, the permit should not have included Saturdays, at the very least.

Mepa's advice was to file a report with the police regarding the noise nuisance; however the police said that if permits are in place it is no use filing a report! So our only hope is that the digging is going to stop soon. Does anyone know when they plan to stop digging?

It's a pity that local councils only work half days, but I would really appreciate an answer. Work can be stressful, driving is stressful, and so some peace at home is necessary for our wellbeing!
