British police are questioning an Anglican priest, his wife and daughter about a newborn boy's death.

The Diocese of Blackburn in northwestern England identified the priest as Rev. Jim Percival.

Lancashire Police said Thursday two people, a man aged 64 and a woman aged 28, are being questioned on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to conceal the birth of a child, and a woman aged 65 has been arrested on the conspiracy charge. They are in custody.

A police statement said police were called to an address in the village of Freckleton on Nov. 25 after reports that a woman had given birth to a still-born boy.

The mother was treated and released at a Blackpool hospital, police said, and an investigation was started.

"Following numerous inquiries the death of the baby boy is now being treated as suspicious," police said in a statement, indicating that further tests are underway to try to establish "exactly how the baby died."
