CareMalta, Malta's leading healthcare providers, celebrated ability during a business breakfast meeting held on 4 December at the Diamond at The Landmark, Qormi.

The theme of the meeting was Building the Future We Want, emphasizing the importance of giving choice to people with disabilities and creating awareness on this important sector in our society.  Several stakeholders attended this meeting, including people with disabilities, parents of people with disabilities, representatives from the National Commission People with Disabilites and Employment and Training Corporation and other professionals.

The meeting opened with a performance from Opening Doors Association, an autonomous, non-governmental , not-for-profit arts association operating at a national level in Malta for the promotion of, and active involvement of adults with learning disabilities in the artistic and creative sector.

During the meeting the speakers shared their own personal life experiences in relation to living with their disabilities.  An explanation of the United Convention for Rights of People with Disabilities was also given during one of the speeches.

CareMalta CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia expressed her family's commitment towards this sector of our society and the intention of contributing in being a voice for persons with disabilities.  Last June a new position was created within the company solely to concentrate on this sector in the aim to conduct research, listen and talk to several stakeholders so as to learn more about this sector and be able to start offering services in the form of independent support living homes.

Michael Farrugia, Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity, was also present for the closing speech.
