Aurora Opera House to toast with Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’

New Year is always a time for throwing parties and toasting to new beginnings and prosperous endeavours. Gozo’s Teatru tal-Opra Aurora this year raises a glass with Alfredo and Violetta to Verdi’s La Traviata and its famous Brindisi (drinking song).

Just as the great master, Giuseppe Verdi completed Il Trovatore and La Traviata in succession, Gozo’s Teatru tal-Opra Aurora has taken the bold decision to stage these two masterpieces in the same sequence. Thus, after the 2014 successful production of Il Trovatore, the Aurora is proudly announcing La Traviata for 17 October.

And just as Verdi rose to fame with these two operatic works, the Aurora commits itself to higher benchmarks. With a plot that sends us at the heart of 1700s Paris, La Traviata has always been considered as the ultimate operatic fashion-parade of music, drama, scenery and costumes. These helped the opera maintain its ratings and secure performance records to this day.

One of Verdi’s most romantic operas, known for its lavish costumes, sumptuous arias and festive brindisi will be brought to life at the Aurora, Malta and Gozo’s largest opera house, as Colin Attard leads the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Aurora Opera Chorus and an international cast that will be announced in the coming months.

La Traviata returns at the Aurora for a third time, after previous performances in 1978 and 1998.

Tickets for ‘La Traviata’ may be purchased online via www.teatruaurora.com or by email [email protected] as of 15 January.
