The Paulus Foundation is once again organising the annual 9 February concert at the Collegiate Parish Church of St Paul in Rabat. Starting at 7.30pm, the concert, organised annually by the Paulus foundation, is being held to celebrate the feast of St Paul's Shipwreck, the 450th anniversary of the Great Siege of Malta and the 25th anniversary of Saint John Paul II's visit to Rabat.
This year, the concert will be welcoming renowned Italian tenor Fra Alessandro Brustenghi, who is singing various songs from his repertoire including Pater Noster, Sancta Maria, Panis Angelicus, O Sacrum Convivium, Madonna de Claritate and Dolce Sentire. As part of the repertoire, the concert also includes Colin Attard's Missa Brevis in onor di Papa Giovanni Paulo II and two musical scores from the Wignacourt Museum archives. These include Josie Mallia Pulverenti's Salve Regina, and Don Fernando de las Infantas Congregati Sunt inimici nostril - Pro Victoria in turcas Mellite obsedionis (1565). The latter is a musical score written to commemorate the Great Siege victory of 1565.
The concert will be also premiering two new musical compositions by Mro. Paul Portelli, namely, Meditation on Adoramus Te Domine and Meditation on Pange Lingua.
The Paulus orchestra and choir will be directed by Mro. Colin Attard while the Gaulitanus choir is also participating in the concert.
The general public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge.
The Paulus foundation thanks the Good Causes Fund, the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government, APS Bank, Wignacourt Museum, Marsovin, Green MT, Studio Seven, Corinthia Group and Fondazzjoni Patri Martin Caruana OP for their support.
