'Days of Our Lives' actor sentenced after plea in Ohio crash

Soap opera actor Freddie Smith has been sentenced to two years of probation and had his drivers' license suspended for a year after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a car crash that seriously injured his girlfriend.

The 26-year-old "Days of Our Lives" actor from Los Angeles lost control of his vehicle Oct. 7 in Ohio. He pleaded guilty in December to felony vehicular assault and misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Twenty-seven-year-old actress Alyssa Tabit was seriously hurt but is recovering.

The Star-Beacon in Ashtabula reports (http://bit.ly/1BugSUy ) Smith apologized for his actions in court Wednesday.

Smith must also pay nearly $1,400 in fines, attend a driver's intervention program and speak at every Ashtabula County high school about the dangers of drinking and driving.
