An Armed Forces of Malta soldier was slightly injured on Wednesday after an anti-riot training exercise at Safi Barracks went wrong.

A film of the accident uploaded on youtube shows the soldier suffering burns in an exercise by the anti-riot squad which involved the use of a Molotov cocktail.

Another soldier who was on stand-by with a fire extinguisher quickly took action, avoiding more serious consequences.

The AFM said it is investigating the case.

In comments to the media, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said he is obviously not satisfied with the incident and will await the outcome of an internal investigation. 

"At the moment an internal investigation is under way. The investigation began immediately in order to establish what happened...

"I do not think I should be happy when things do not go right. If you asked me if I am happy with what happened, I don’t think I should be satisfied," Mr Abela told The Malta Independent.

Asked whether any action will be taken against the person who filmed the video which was posted online, Mr Abela said: "I do not think they invited anyone to film them, we will see the outcome of the investigation."
