The MUMN is requesting an urgent meeting with the Health Minister so as to clarify all situations regarding privatisation in the health system.
In a statement, the nurses and midwives union said a lot is being said on privatization issues regarding Cospicua Health Centre, Kirkop Health Centre and Gozo General Hospital.
MUMN has neither agreement nor any information where any private entrepreneurs will get their nurses. All privatization process will cost more to the tax payer and MUMN cannot understand why the exact services being given by the Primary Care or by Gozo General Hospital should be given as some kind of "gift" to some private contractor.
When privatization usually takes place, it would be a clear sign of failure for the Government and so such eagerness to privatize shows clear signs that expenses will increase to the tax payer and that the Government is awarding "gifts" to some entrepreneur at the expense of the tax payer.
MUMN will make it clear since there is more than meets the eye on what is being baked behind every one's back no nurses or midwives or any member of MUMN will be seconded to any private entities both in Malta and Gozo.
So any new privatization will have to open with just foreign nurses brought by such entrepreneur or private contractor which will be not be able to render any health service which is safe to the patients. Safety standards cannot be guaranteed when only foreign nurses run any service due to language barriers so any talk or decisions taken behind MUMN's back on privatization are literally useless and cannot materialize. No Maltese nurse will be seconded to the private sector in Malta and Gozo that is not negotiable.
