Just when you thought it was safe to go to the theatre…

Local comedy specialists Mostly Harmless Productions are set to reduce Maltese audiences to hysterics this May with their production of Completely Hollywood (abridged).

This smash-hit play was originally conceived and created by the world famous Reduced Shakespeare Company, the slightly warped brains behind the award-winning The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).

In this new show, three actors work their way mercilessly through 186 different movies in just 90 minutes, all without the aid of a safety net. No genre is sacred as horror, comedy, musicals and drama are given the “reduced” makeover.

Completely Hollywood (abridged) has been performed all over the globe, from the Edinburgh Fringe to New York, garnering rave reviews everywhere it’s been. It has been described as “Pure genius!” by the Daily Express, “Hilarious!” by the Daily Mail and “An Instant Classic!” by the BBC.

In the local production, three of Malta’s finest actors will run through the 12 rules of creating a Hollywood film before finding time to make a “hit” movie of their very own. With a little help from the audience, that is.

Completely Hollywood (abridged) is a non-stop, action-packed, laugh-a-minute parody of all things Tinseltown which condenses some of the greatest movies of all time into classic cinematic clichés.

The Mostly Harmless production stars Alan Montanaro, Joe Azzopardi and John Montanaro. Although all three actors are basically playing themselves, they also have to get to grips with a wide variety of male and female roles as they bring the movies to life in front of your eyes.

Director James Calvert explained: “Frankly it is all a bit mad. The words ‘organised chaos’ spring to mind although that implies some form of organisation. We are effectively squeezing 400 hours of movies into an hour and a half on stage. It’s fantastic fun.”

Although a relatively new production company, the founders of Mostly Harmless have nearly 50 years of combined experience in acting, directing and producing shows for the Maltese stage.

Amongst their credits are Yes, Prime Minister, My First Time, God’s Official, Legally Blonde and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).

Completely Hollywood (abridged), will be performed at the University’s Sir Temi Zammit Hall on May 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10. Tickets for the opening night are €10, while seats for all other performances are €15. Parking is free.

All shows start at 8pm and last for approximately two hours including intermission. Tickets and more details are available from the website www.mostlyharmless.com.mt
