Updated (2): Three bids for development of St Luke’s, Gozo hospitals; MUMN requests urgent meeting

Tuesday, 19 May 2015, 12:47 Last update: about 11 years ago

The government has received three bids following a government call for expressions of interest for the running of Gozo hospital and St Luke's Hospital.

The bidding companies are Vitalis Global Healthcare/Bluestone; Image Hospitals and BSP Investments Ltd.

The call was issued by Projects Malta Limited on behalf of the Government.

The investors were asked for proposals for the management and operation of St Luke’s Hospital – which was closed down in 2007 – and the Gozo General Hospital.

Government statement

In a press statement, the government confirmed the three submissions put forward, adding that the evaluation process will start immediately.

The investment will ensure that an efficient health service is offered in Gozo, and introduce new services creating a niche in the medical tourism sector.

The project will also include the development of St Luke’s Hospital and Karin Grech into a rehabilitation and dermatological centre. This investment will complement the agreement signed by the government, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Denistry.

The government reiterated that the project will create new jobs, eliminate discrepancy between Mater Dei and the hospital in Gozo, create more bed space and attract around 300 students from well-renowned colleges to visit Malta.

In a statement this evening, the MUMN said that it will be requesting a meeting to discuss the developments.
