PM must come clean on Zonqor Point, he has united a movement against him – Busuttil

Friday, 22 May 2015, 10:23 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Prime Minister must come clean on Zonqor Point and say whether he is really ready to listen to people and move the ‘University of the South’ to a different location.

Speaking at a press conference launching the PN’s 2015 general conference, Dr Busuttil said the PM is giving mixed messages, as on the one hand he appears unwilling to budge on the location of the University, and on the other he says he is willing to consider alternative locations.

Dr Busuttil said that Dr Muscat has managed to unite a whole movement against him, including the Opposition, NGOs and the church.

The Prime Minister needs to give a clear declaration that he is willing to perform a “u-turn” and will not build the University at the ODZ at Zonqor Point.

He said the PM plays to his audience by telling different people what they want to hear.

On the ‘weak concrete’ at Mater Dei, Dr Busuttil said the only person who has been ridiculed is Health Minister Konrad Mizzi, who six months ago said the hospital was in danger of collapse.

Speaking about the PN’s executive elections which open today, Dr Busuttil said that 18 people will be elected to the executive, half of which will be women thanks to a new rule implemented by the Party last year.

A president of the executive will also be elected, with incumbent Paula Mifsud Bonnici the only one contesting the post.

While thanking outgoing secretary general Chris Said for his efforts, Dr Busuttil said the new secretary general and the executive as a whole will be geared towards making the PN a credible alternative government for the 2018 general elections.
