The Floriana Local Council, whose budget is so small that it is unable to pay for sufficient street sweepers to keep the community clean, decided in its infinite wisdom and against sound advice (because there was absolutely no need), to spend some of its limited funds to have the trees and bushes in the Luigi Preziosi Garden “trimmed”. The attached picture (617) shows a fairly normal tree, similar to the one in the other attached picture (620), after it was “trimmed” by the ELC tree butchers.
Trees, through their leaves, provide shade and oxygen and filter dust out of the air. It will be a long time before this remnant of a tree fulfils any of these three functions. And, unfortunately, most of the trees in the Garden have been left in a similar state.
The newly elected mayor of Floriana, after being warned of what was going on, expressed her complete confidence in the expertise of the contractor, reducing my confidence in her expertise.
