Enough is enough Joseph

Sunday, 7 June 2015, 09:10 Last update: about 11 years ago

Governments across the globe come to power by promising change, a new beginning, a better future! They promise everything. They swear they will work hard to the best of their ability and in the people's best interests.

Alas! Governments fail to keep their solemn promises; they manifestly fail in their endeavours to abide by their promises once they are sitting comfortably on the hot seat.  Soon enough, they start to look the voters straight in the eyes and try to persuade them that they have an absolutely accurate road map! And they carry on with a litany of excuses and lies.

Sadly enough, the majority of "great pretenders" filling the Maltese Parliament, are piling up serious problems for the future of these islands, as we shall see in a few months time, with the infrastructure and environment badly shaken.

In the beginning of this legislature, the honourable Joseph Muscat signalled his desire to avoid bad decisions and blatant errors committed by the previous administration and promised to deliver if voters give him a clear mandate to govern. This was given to him on a golden plate by the vast majority of Maltese and Gozitan voters who believed him. Of course they believed him. Joseph Muscat promised heaven on earth and a pledge to deliver; he promised not to waste one single moment in getting on with his task entrusted to him by the people.

In the first few days, he created the impression that he knew what he was doing, an impression that he had a clear vision for our country. He said that there would be opportunities for everyone, including pensioners, at every step of the way.

At first glance, our prime minister looked serious enough until he started to show his true self: goodbye to meritocracy, goodbye to accountability, goodbye to transparency. Shady dealings in the Cafe Premier saga, Gaffarena's Christmas bonanza, the Australia Hall, citizenship scheme with the selling of passports, projects in ODZs, promotions galore to those trustworthy, and so on and so forth...

Dear politicians, we've had enough of you, and enough is enough. Please, do not ever come knocking on our door to beg for our vote!
