A Maltese man who was lost in the Scottish Highlands has been found safe and sound, the Malta police said in a statement.
In the past days, the Maltese police was involved in an unusual case in which it was assisting the Scottish authorities in a search for a missing Maltese man.
A woman reported at the Sliema police station at 7.45pm that her partners had called her from the Scottish Highlands to tell her that he had lost his way while trekking in the Highlands. The weather had deteriorated and he could not find his way back.
The Maltese police informed the Sirene Bureau (responsible for international relations) who, in turn, communicated with Scottish authorities for them to conduct a search for the missing man.
At 11pm, the Maltese man had again made contact with his partner via mobile phone and told her that he was hearing a helicopter in the distance. Soon afterwards the Maltese police were informed that due to the bad weather the helicopter was forced to land and instead mountain rescuers were dispatched.
The man was located at 1.20am this morning and was found to be in good health.
