Health and Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi has told the chairman of Enemalta to terminate the engagement of a former police inspector at the corporation.

This evening in parliament, it was revealed that a police inspector who was discharged from the police force on medical grounds has been given a new job in Enemalta's audit division with a salary of close to €60,000.

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi said that the two decisions were taken within four days.

In comments to this newspaper, Dr Mizzi said that he was very upset to find out about the news from parliament, and that if the inspector was not fit to work for the police force, he should not have been engaged at Enemalta shortly after. He said that this was not the right way to do things, and given the proceedings were unfair, he decided to ask the chairman to terminate the employment.

Dr Mizzi added that the chairman of Enemalta was not aware that the inspector was boarded out, but merely knew he was leaving the police force.

In Parliament, Minister for Home Affairs Carmelo Abela said that according to an affidavit by the medical board coordinator, the normal boarding out procedures were followed, with no preferences. He said that he does not who the person is, or who his relatives are, and that he treated the civil worker just as any other referred to him.
