Maltese Short Film Future Peel wins Popular Jury Award of the Movie Edition at the Milan Expo

Future Peel a short film produced by HandsOn Malta, Film Students, has won the Popular Jury Award at the Milan Expo 2015 Movie Edition, by Switch on your Creativity and Asian Studies Group, where it competed with 60 other films submitted from around the globe. The Maltese film has been shortlisted with 9 other finalists, after going through 2 other selection processes, including the technical jury. The prize was announced yesterday at the Gala Award Ceremony in Milan.

This Maltese production Future Peel was produced HandsOn Malta School of Filmmaking, by Samantha Cassar Ellis (producer and actress) and directed by Mirko G. Rauso, with Sefora Mannino (Assistant Director), Matthew Debono and Alexandra Petrova.

The theme of the Expo this year focuses on culture and food and the Expo’s Movie Edition Title is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.  The Maltese submission Future Peel comes with the strong message that ‘small changes in home education, play a strong part in achieving global food sustainability”. 

Switch on your Creativity and Asian Studies Group created several screening opportunities for the short films at The Milano Expo 2015 and will also be internationally distributing a DVD with the 10 finalists.

The School supports its student filmmakers in launching their film careers and encourages them, to use their skill set to voice global concerns, such as food sustainability, said Hands On Malta School Director, Denise Ross.

“We enojyed the creative and collaborative process that went into making this short film. We wanted to create something that was highly appealing visually and at the same time have a strong message that could resonate with people watching Future Peel. We are very proud that our short film was received so well and that this short Maltese production made it to top of the list in the popular award,” said young director Mirko Rauso.
