Saturday, 27 June 2015, 11:45 Last update: about 10 years ago

Electricity has been restored to parts of Ħamrun and Santa Venera left without power after a private contractor damaged an Enemalta substation through the use of an emergency supply, an Enemalta spokesman confirmed.

The contractor was demolishing a property in Cannon Road, Santa Venera, when the demolition work caused the partial collapse of the adjacent distribution substation after the roof was damaged. The power cut occurred at around 10:30am.

Through the use of an emergency supply, power was finally restored at around 2:45pm, although an Enemalta spokesman said that brief interruptions could occur during testing.

Officers went on site to assess the damage, and Enemalta engineers were waiting for the go-ahead to enter the building to start assessing the damage caused to the machinery and start repair works.
