BATON ROUGE, La. — Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma was crowned Miss USA on Sunday, beating out 50 other contestants and overcoming weeks of controversy generated by pageant co-owner Donald Trump to win the 64th annual pageant. The 26-year-old winner was followed by first runner-up Yliana Guerra, 22, of Texas, and second runnerup Anea Garcia, 20, of Rhode Island. They were followed by 25-year-old Miss Nevada Brittany McGown, 25, third runner-up and then Miss Maryland Mame Adjei, 23, to round out the top five.
CONFEDERATE FLAG RALLY
OCALA, Florida — Thousands of people have rallied in Florida in support of flying the rebel Confederate flag. The Florida rally came weeks after the shooting deaths of nine people at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, that spurred a debate about the flying of the Confederate flag, flown by armies of the pro-slavery, secessionist South during the American Civil War. On Friday, South Carolina removed the flag from a flagpole near its Statehouse. The man charged in the Charleston shooting is shown in pictures with the Confederate flag and police say he was motivated by hate.
COLOMBIA-PEACE TALKS
BOGOTA, Colombia — Colombia's government and leftist rebels have agreed to accelerate peace negotiations and will attempt to negotiate a cease-fire even before reaching an agreement to bring an end to the South American nation's five-decade-old conflict.
PLUTO - NASA's New Horizons spacecraft will sweep past Pluto this week and reveal the previously unexplored world in all its icy glory. It promises to be the biggest planetary unveiling in a quarter-century and it took 3 billion miles and 9½ years to get to this historic point.
