The Nationalist Party today welcomed the historic agreement reached in Vienna between Iran, China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the European Union on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Roberta Metsola, PN Shadow Minister for EU and Foreign Affairs, said: “This agreement is a positive development for regional stability and greater security in the Middle East and represents a significant diplomatic triumph for the international community. It proved that diplomacy remains a powerful tool that can overcome some of the toughest global challenges we face today. The tireless role played by the EUs High Representative Federica Mogherini in securing this deal is testament to this”.

PN Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Tonio Fenech said, “It culminates more than a decade of intense and difficult negotiations that will place tough monitoring and inspection mechanisms on the country, whilst also setting limits on what Iran’s nuclear programme can produce. On its part, the international community will lift the existing UN Security Council Sanctions and shall provide Iran with access in the areas of trade, technology, finance and energy.

The deal reached gives the international community the peace of mind that Iran’s nuclear programme will remain exclusively peaceful. We now have to ensure that all sides follow through. The PN is ready to assist the Government of Malta in supporting its international partners with the swift implementation of this historic achievement.
