Annabelle Camilleri Monreal, whose name has become synonymous with fraud, was today jailed for another year after a court found her guilty of defrauding several people over property rentals.
Ms Camilleri Monreal, 31, from Xemxija, has a long list of fraud convictions, including a Gozo farmhouse scam.
She was accused before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli of taking money for the rental of properties she did not own. The Magistrate jailed her for a year.
Police Inspector Godwin Scerri had told the court in December that there was a long queue of people waiting outside the Qawra police station to file reports against the accused.
Last November, Ms Camilleri Monreal had been sentenced to seven months in jail after admitting to defrauding an Englishman of €1,000. He had paid her to rent an apartment in St Paul’s Bay that did not belong to her.
Last month she admitted to the theft of items worth €4,490 from a residence in St Julians. She posed as a maid and was hired to clean an apartment in St Julian’s, however ended up committing theft. She was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for three years and ordered to pay the aforementioned amount to the victim.
She also stands accused of defrauding her former employer, Zahra Trading and Properties.
