Wednesday, 22 July 2015, 16:08 Last update: about 10 years ago

A new residence inaugurated today will offer rehabilitation services to prisoners which will help them integrate in the community once they are out of prison. Prisoners will be offered such services while serving their last year in jail. The residence – Sister Maria Adele Baldacchino – is located in Valletta.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela inaugurated the residence along with Family Minister Michael Farrugia. Fondazzjoni Rise is also behind the project, besides the Home Affairs and Family ministries.

Mr Abela explained that in the last year and the half, there were 261 applications for parole. 42 parole licences were issued with 10 applicants ending their parole successfully. Only two parole licences were revoked and one was suspended.

“These statistics show that the system is being operated in a good manner which is helping strike a balance in ensuring justice is restored and society protected," Mr Abela said.
