The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate has embarked on a media campaign to create awareness among the public to increase their daily fluid intake by dinking fresh, cool water.
“It is advisable to drink between 1.5 and 2 litres of water each day, and larger amounts if one is exercising or during hot weather. Those suffering from certain chronic conditions should consult their doctor as to whether they should restrict their water intake”.
“Water has several health benefits, including keeping the body temperature at normal levels, helping in cushioning and lubricating joints and helping in getting rid of waste products through perspiration, urination, and bowel movements,”.
You are what you drink: Drink Water, is a flyer that has been launched by the Directorate as part of a campaign aimed at educating and informing the public of the benefits of water and giving tips on how to increase the daily fluid intake. “For those who do not like the taste of plain, clear water, easy and refreshing recipes are included to improve its taste without the addition of any sugar”.
Mater Dei customer care officials, together with volunteers from Volserv and SOS Malta gave visitors at the A&E and the Outpatients Department a free bottle of water together with a flyer promoting water.
