Wednesday, 5 August 2015, 10:07 Last update: about 10 years ago

The body of DOI photographer Martin Attard was flown back to Malta yesterday after his daughter launched an appeal for funds following his untimely death abroad.

Mr Attard, 58, died of a heart attack while on holiday in Croatia on 23 July. Besides working with the Department of Information for several years and also as a professional photographer, Mr Attard was also a songwriter and composer and, in 1995, he won the Ghanja tal-Poplu prize for the song Pajjiz tal-Miki Maws.

His daughter, Desiree’ Attard, managed to collect more than €4,000 after she launched an online appeal for help to repatriate Martin’s body. Ms Attard thanked all those who had contributed, as well as Malta International Airport for sponsoring the flights for herself and her sister back to Malta from London. She also thanked the Malta Community Chest Fund and the Maltese government for their help.

Mr Attard’s funeral will be held tomorrow at 9.30am at the Sacred Heart Church in Sliema.
